Glimpses of Piazza Navona-Rome, Italy

Piazza Navona

Located just of the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and a short walk from Largo di Torre Argentina and the end of the #8 tram line, is Piazza Navona. The Piazza is considered by many as Rome's most beautiful Piazza.

The Piazza contains three fountains: the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers, 1651) stands in the center, and was designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini; the Fontana di Nettuno (1574), located at the northern area of the piazza; and the Fontana del Moro (1576), located at the southern end. These two fountains were designed by Giacomo della Porta .

The Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers, 1651) features the statutes of the four great rivers at the time (1651): the Nile, the Plate, the Ganges and the Danube.

These photographs were taken the last week of February of the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi. Please click on the photographs to enlarge them.

Ah Roma ... I want to go back to Italy ... I love seeing your photos because sometimes they bring back memories and other times they spur me to save harder so I can get back sooner

Ooooh! The lion is drinking! And the horse is splashing in the water. What wonderful surprises in this sculpture! Beautiful photos, Erin!

Both your blogs are about Italy? I thought this one was about Virginia. Don't matter - I can never get enough of gorgeous photos of Italy.
